Whose Voice Are You Listening To?
Have you ever had a thought that sounded true but left you feeling farther away from Christ? Maybe you've made a mistake and thought, I should have known better. Maybe you've felt discouraged and wondered, Why am I still struggling with this? Or maybe you've assumed you need to figure things out on your own before you can come back to God. But what if the most important question isn't simply whether a thought is true? What if we also need to ask where that thought is leading us? In this final episode of the Rethinking Discipleship: Moving from Performance to Partnership with Christ series, Kirstin explores how we can recognize Christ's voice in the middle of everyday life and learn to distinguish His invitations from the voices of shame, fear, and self-reliance. Drawing from the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and Moroni 7, Kirstin explores how Satan can mix truth with deception, subtly shifting our trust away from Christ and toward self-reliance. She contrasts the enemy's message of "hide" with Christ's invitation to "come." Kirstin also shares four questions she uses when a discouraging thought enters her mind. Rather than immediately asking whether the thought is true, these questions help us recognize the direction it is taking us toward Christ or away from Him. One of the most powerful distinctions in this episode is between conviction and shame. The Holy Ghost convicts, while shame condemns. One leads us toward Christ and reconciliation; the other tells us to hide until we've somehow become good enough to return. Kirstin also explains why recognizing Christ's voice isn't simply a skill we develop. Like recognizing the voice of someone we love, it becomes easier through relationship, familiarity, and time spent walking with Him. As this four-part series comes to a close, Kirstin brings everything together from remembering our identity, to wearing Christ's yoke, to seeing mortality as God's laboratory, and finally to learning how to recognize His voice as we walk through that laboratory with Him. ๐ฟ In This Episode ๐ธ Why Satan often uses truth mixed with deception rather than obvious lies ๐ธ What the story of Adam and Eve teaches us about hiding, shame, and God's invitation to return ๐ธ How Moroni 7 gives us a principle for recognizing what comes from God ๐ธ Why a thought can contain truth but still lead us away from Christ ๐ธ Four questions to help you discern where your thoughts are leading you ๐ธ The difference between the Holy Ghost convicting and shame condemning ๐ธ Why discernment is the fruit of a growing relationship with Christ ๐ธ How becoming more familiar with Christ helps us recognize His voice ๐ธ The difference between trying to do everything alone and choosing partnership with Christ ๐ธ The final invitation: "Jesus, what does partnership with you look like right here?" ๐ฅ Watch the full episode here: https://youtu.be/sPUfHiFH79c?si=4RZwRbyl0sZQrz2s
